Chancellor's School to resubmit building plans

Existing roads "able to support expansion" - report

The planning application for a new sports hall and classroom block is to be resubmitted to Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council "immediately after the Christmas break", according to Chancellor's School. The decision follows the results of a survey into the likely transport impact of the plans on local roads.

On 22 August, 2018, Chancellor’s applied for planning permission to expand the school buildings in order to accommodate an increase in pupil numbers.

Consultation with the community regarding the proposal - planning application 6/2018/2178/FULL - resulted in adverse comments and objections. That application was withdrawn on 12 October 2018.

An independent transport assessment was then commissioned by the school, which, according to headteacher David Croston, writing in the December edition of the school's newsletter, says supports the expansion plans.
"The more detailed Transport Assessment which we commissioned, demonstrates, as Hertfordshire County Council had previously determined, that the existing road network is able support the expansion of Chancellor’s to seven forms of entry and should provide the evidence the planners need to approve the decision.
"It does however, along with our Travel Plan, also highlight the importance of encouraging sustainable methods of transport in the future, promoting public transport including buses and trains, as well as encouraging a greater amount of car sharing, cycling and walking rather than a dependence on individual private cars; this is something we will continue to review and advocate in the future."
