MP demands answers regarding "shambolic" services
In it he planned to "demand answers" about the performance of Great Northern Rail and make the case for Transport for London to take over the service.
Grant Shapps says he also wants to "seek clarity" on the introduction of Oyster cards on the line.
A Westminster Hall debate gives an MP the chance to raise local or national issues and receive a response from a government minister. The debate lasted half an hour. The MP announced the debate via Twitter.
The South East Rail Group, which calls itself an independent non-party political campaigning for "better rail services" for the south-east, is one of many to respond via Twitter @DirectorSERG.I’ve secured a debate in Parliament Tues about the shambolic rail services between Welwyn Hatfield & London. I’ll be demanding answers about @GNRailUK performance, and making the case for @TfL to take over our line to #WGC. I'll also seek clarity on date for Oyster along our line— Grant Shapps MP (@grantshapps) December 17, 2018
The takeover could happen rapidly if DfT agreed it. Regarding Oyster that will might be September when TfL make adjustments to their fares systems. However stations probably won’t be zoned, they will be ‘ghost-zoned’ for capping purposes like others currently beyond zone 9.— Exec Dir, South East Rail Group (@DirectorSERG) December 17, 2018
