Do you know of anyone who might be lonely and feeling isolated? Perhaps you have a neighbour who is in need of companionship? If so there is a local social group for those who want to meet new friends.

The group has been set up by Welham Green and Hatfield South Councillor Jaida Caliskan because she is concerned that the affect of loneliness and social isolation on some local residents is being overlooked.

Cllr Jaida Caliskan
“Isolation has a negative impact on the health and well-being of those affected.

For this reason I have started a friendship group for residents of all ages to come together to support one another, have fun and chat over a cup of tea or coffee.

“Occasionally we will enjoy an interesting speaker or a workshop together.  Please come along to our next meeting where you will be warmly welcome.”

The meetings are held monthly on Tuesday mornings at 11am at the Sibthorpe Arms, Station Road, Welham Green. The next meetings are 12 March, 9 April, 14 May, and 11 June.

Admission is free of charge, although a voluntary contribution of £2 is requested to cover the cost of the tea, coffee and biscuits provided by the landlady of the Sibthorpe.

According to Cllr Caliskan, the friendship group is now regularly attended by more than 20 people although one meeting attracted 60.

If you know anyone who might enjoy joining in but who is not online please let them know about the meetings.

Cllr. Jaida Caliskan has invited anyone who has any questions about the group to contact her on 07517 991595 or via email at Jaida.caliskan@welhat.gov.uk.

If you would like to join the group as a guest speaker Cllr Caliskan would like to hear from you.
