The group responsible for the Hope and Anchor in Welham Green says it’s still looking for a new tenant for the Station Road pub which closed in November.

Today contractors blocked off the pub’s car park leading to fears that the historical inn might have closed for good. This site understands the car park was closed because of concerns about drug dealing.

Ei Group, which owns the building, says it is still planning to refurbish and invest in the Hope and Anchor. And the company is keen to hear from anyone who wants to run the pub which it describes as follows:
“The Hope & Anchor is a characterful inn located in the village of Welham Green in Hertfordshire. This delightful two bar operation is popular with a cross-section of this lovely community. Customers visit for well-kept cask ales, televised sport and live entertainment. The site is also popular with families who come to relax in the large garden and enjoy pub games. Ei Publican Partnerships have external redecoration plans and with the right candidate, we may also consider internal investment. Whether new to the trade or an experienced operator, the Hope & Anchor would be ideal for those who want to be at the heart of local life.”
This site understands the reason the car park has been blocked off is that a local councillor wrote to the company’s head office complaining that the vacant car park was encouraging drug dealing. The company agreed to close the car park following the local politician's concerns.
