The grounds team working for North Mymms Parish Council (NMPC) is filling in the gaps under the two gates leading to the Gobions play area in order to prevent dogs getting in.

It follows an incident when a woman with a dog was spotted in the play area by a NMPC member of staff.

When asked if she was not aware of the “No Dogs In The Playground Area” notices on the entrance, the woman apparently replied that she didn’t think it was a problem because there was nobody else there at the time.

She said that if her dog did mess she would clear it up.

When informed about the “serious problem NMPC has with dog mess” in the area the woman accused the council member of staff of being a “real jobsworth”.

According to NMPC the woman pointed out that the gap under one of the gates encouraged other dogs to come into the area.

The gap under the gate at the southern end of the play area has now been blocked.

NMPC’s amenities committee agreed to block the gap under the gate at the north end of the playground where the ground has worn away.

The local authority has also recently started to spray dog mess with pink paint to help people avoid walking in it and to shame offending dog owners.
