Overnight closure of QEII Urgent Care Centre proposed

Public discussion event at North Mymms Memorial Hall

Local residents are being asked for their views on a proposal to close the Urgent Care Centre (UCC) at the QEII overnight.

The East and North Hertfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) says on average fewer than one person an hour uses the UCC between 10pm and 6am and of those who do visit overnight 86% leave without the need for further investigation and require no treatment.

The CCG says that during the overnight period, highly-skilled nursing staff currently based at the UCC could instead support patients with serious or life-threatening conditions in the A&E department at the Lister Hospital.

The CCG is holding a series of public drop-in events and meetings over the next three months to give people the chance to discuss the proposal with doctors and nurses from the CCG and from East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.

There are 15 events planned with one at the North Mymms Memorial Hall, Station Road, Welham Green on Thursday 27 June 2019 - 6:30pm to 8:00pm. If you can’t make that event the next nearest is at ASDA in Hatfield town centre on Friday 2 August 2019 - 12:30pm to 2:00pm.

If you can’t attend the meetings you can fill in an online questionnaire. If you want to know more about the proposal you can read the background here.

If you are know someone who is not online and can’t attend the meetings but would like to have their say, printed copies can be obtained by phoning 01707 685140.

Paper copies of the questionnaire and submitted views can be posted to arrive by Wednesday 4 September, to:  Opinion Research Services, Freepost SS1018, PO Box 530, Swansea, SA1 1ZL (no need for a stamp).

The public “engagement period” will end on Wednesday 4 September, 2019.
