Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council’s Planning Committee has agreed to plans set out by Chancellor’s School in Brookmans Park for the building of new sports and education facilities on the Pine Grove site.

The plans, which had been resubmitted after having been withdrawn are for the:
“Erection of building comprising sports hall with associated changing facilities and 7 x classrooms built on existing hard play tennis courts; 4 x hard play sports pitches to be provided to replace existing; provision of 33 x parking spaces; and two mobile classrooms to be provided for the duration of the project.”
Chancellor’s original plans were made available for public consultation in May last year and closed in June. The plans were withdrawn after local objections, mainly about traffic flows.

Chancellor’s carried out a transport survey and resubmitted the plans once it was complete.

Comments were then invited on the new plans, and those new plans were submitted.

Last night the councillors on Welwyn Hatfield’s planning committee voted for the development to go ahead.

Possible review of local parking restrictions

Local residents opposed to the plans attended the meeting. One contacted this site after the decision saying that he was hopeful something might be done to help deal with the expected traffic problems the expansion could bring.
“The one aspect which might eventually mitigate against the further adverse environmental impact of the development due to more vehicular traffic using and parking on local roads in association with the school was the chairman’s request to the Planning Department to bring forward a review of some possible further parking restrictions locally.”
