A new team has taken over Welham Green’s Hope & Anchor, promising to breathe “a new lease of life back into this village-centre jewel”.

Licensees Gary Bush and Adam Wyett, both local to the area, take over running the pub on Friday 27 September.

Gary, the pub’s director, and Adam, the pub manager, say the Hope & Anchor on Station Road is to become a “family-friendly” venue with a “musical entertainment theme”.

They say they plan to “add to the existing offerings of our competitors” in the village.

There had been concerns that the pub would close, but owners EI Group advertised for new tenants, vowing to keep it open.

The new licensees say they plan a number of renovations for the Grade II-listed building over the coming months, with lorries, ladders and tradesmen working on the site, but they say at least one bar will remain open at all times.

Work will pause over the Christmas period with further renovations planned in January, but Gary says the Hope & Anchor will remain open throughout.
“The works will not involve closing to customers. We will be working on each bar separately, leaving the other one open to trade. We start offering a free music event every Friday from 8pm starting on 4th October and it would be great to meet the locals.”
Gary and Adam say there will be an official opening party on Friday 8 November including a free community fireworks display.

And they are keen to work with local community groups saying “any collaborations would be very welcome”.
