Contactless, but not Oyster
The spokesperson has confirmed that the PAYG contactless readers can’t be used with Oyster cards.
There had previously been some confusion about whether Oyster cards would be rolled out to Welwyn Hatfield, but GTR says that is not the case.
“Customers will not be able to use Oyster cards at Welham Green, however it is worth noting that contactless has overtaken Oyster in terms of popularity.”When asked when daily/weekly caps will be applied to contactless payments at both Welham Green and Brookmans Park, the spokesperson said that capping is set to be introduced at both early next year.
Railcards, GroupSave and other discounts
According to GTR, it’s not possible for customers to benefit from Railcard, GroupSave, and other discounts when using PAYG with contactless.
However they say the full range of paper ticket fares remains in place for passengers to continue to benefit from these discounts/offers.
