A Welham Green resident is concerned that someone could be hurt walking on the pavement along Dixons Hill Road following damage to the grass verge.
But Hertfordshire County Council’s Highways Department says a risk assessment has been carried out which concluded that the damage was “not requiring action at this time”.
The local resident had contacted the highways department after spotting the verge damage which has spread mud over the pavement.
He was not impressed with the response he received from the council, so he tweeted some pictures of the damage.
Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council spotted the tweet and asked who had told him the verge was not sufficiently damaged. The local resident then shared a letter he’d received from Hertfordshire Council Council’s Highways Department.@hertscc @WelHatCouncil @whtimes This verge in Welham Green is not sufficiently damaged according to the response I received by email. Now that the pavement is almost impassable, can the Councils illustrate what IS sufficient to act upon? pic.twitter.com/XELPnNCkR1— scott nelson (@scottagnelson) December 20, 2019
The local resident is now waiting to hear back from Hertfordshire Highways. It was given as a reason in an email from https://t.co/Xfmv3xMsXv pic.twitter.com/fhCOTFYVsO— scott nelson (@scottagnelson) December 20, 2019
I’m really interested to hear what @hertscc say, or will say when there is an incident caused by a foot passenger trying to get past.— scott nelson (@scottagnelson) December 20, 2019
