The proposal to extend the opening hours at Welham Green’s Hope and Anchor pub will be heard by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council (WHBC) officials on Wednesday 4 March.

A ‘variation - premises & club licence application’ was submitted to WHBC’s licensing office on Friday 10 January.

The Hope and Anchor’s management say they applied for the extension after receiving interest from local residents wanting to hold budget events without having to pay for room hire or for a DJ.

Notices giving details of the application were posted outside the pub to inform interested parties of the proposed variation to the existing licence.

According to the WHBC website, 12 ‘representations’ were received about the proposal. One from the police, one from Environmental Health, two from councillors, and eight others.

The hearing, on Wednesday 4 March, is at 2pm in the Council Chamber, Campus East, Welwyn Garden City, AL8 6AE.

It is open to the public, who are able to view proceedings, but only those who made valid representations will be allowed to speak.
