An application to extend the opening hours at Welham Green’s Hope and Anchor pub to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays has been refused.
The application also sought to remove the condition limiting the pub to staging 12 events a year.
The Hope and Anchor’s management said they applied for the extension after receiving interest from local residents wanting to hold budget events without having to pay for room hire or for a DJ.
The ‘variation - premises & club licence application’ was submitted to Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council's (WHBC) licensing office on Friday 10 January. The licensing extension proposal was heard on Wednesday 4 March.
According to the WHBC website, 12 ‘representations’ were received regarding the proposal, one from the police, one from Environmental Health, two from councillors, and eight others.
The notice on the council site doesn’t give the reason for the refusal. There is an appeal process available to all sides involved in a licensing hearing should any party wish to trigger it.
